Acute Occlusal Trauma and Associated Pain

Not all painful conditions of the teeth and gums are caused by infections. Sometimes, if there is too much pressure applied repeatedly to a tooth, the nerves which supply sensation in the ligament that hold the tooth into the jaw bone, can become very irritated. You may be experiencing acute occlusal trauma if you notice that upon closing your teeth together, you experience a sharp pain.
